Mere restaurant - tasting menu experience
Our lunch at Mere was a (delayed) birthday present for Jhey for his 30th.
Mere is an elegant and contemporary restaurant offering a relaxed yet refined dining experience. The dishes celebrate the passion and heritage of husband and wife team, Monica and David Galetti, blending classical French with South Pacific influences.
You might know Monica from the British version of Masterchef
Trivia: Monica (who is a kiwi) is the sister of my high school friend back home in New Zealand.
The restaurant had a very evident pacific feel and I felt like I was a little bit at home in NZ. I loved the modern features too.
We were provided with the most delicious bread rolls after ordering our drinks which of course, was a great New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
We decided to have the tasting 6-course menu and what an excellent choice. The menu is as follows:
Tomato: Smoked Bacon - Pickled Shallot - Tomato Jelly Marmite Emulsion
Salmon: Beetroot Cured - Manuka Soda Bread - Horseradish Cream
John Dory: Pan Fried - Mussels - Escabeche Vegetables - Bottarga
Lamb: Grilled Rump - Glazed Shoulder - Harissa - Feta and Mint
Cheese: P’tit Basque - Verjus Jelly - Seeded Cracker
Pimms: Watermelon - Strawberry Mousse - Lemon Sorbet Cucumber
My favourite was the John Dory which was just pure delish! it's a well-balanced dish: pan-fried fish, some muscles, and side pickled vegetables.
Another one is the Pimms dessert, which is unexpected! It tasted really good and I was also impressed with the textures it has like the cucumber was not a fresh one but has been semi-dried!
Overall this was an excellent experience. Jhey and I thoroughly enjoyed Mere and would most definitely return at a later date to experience more delicious food creation of Monica and her awesome team.
